The latest post by Dr. Grumpy got me thinking.  Too many people are clueless about the distinction between food allergies and food sensitivities.

The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network

The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network is a great resource for people who must deal with food allergies (and food sensitivities).  The website has tips about living with allergies.  It also has recipes.  FAAN is who you can thank for the big bold letters on food packaging warning “this product contains nuts” and other such life-saving information.

The people at FAAN can help you arrange an approved teacher-inservice for your child’s school if your child has food allergies.

  1. Thanks for the link – it looks very useful.

I have a friend who is “allergic” to a long list of foods she actually eats all the time.

My only real allergy is to shellfish, which does produce anaphylaxis. I’ve only spoken with my PCP about it, though, and plan on seeing an allergist sometime soon to learn more about it. (Mainly because, if there are types of shellfish I CAN eat, I want to!)
