Yet another menu installment.

My brother’s kids are visiting.  Everyone’s out in the pasture, sleeping in tents.  They asked if they can cook some of their food over a campfire, thus Tuesday’s menu:

We’re headed out for vacation.  Family reunion on Saturday, a week of travel, and another family reunion the following weekend.

We butchered a steer Monday, so there’s heart, tongue, and fresh liver this week.  I gave the tail away, so another family will be having ox-tail stew.

  • hard-boiled duck eggs

Dinner veggies:  I wasn’t feeling very imaginative this week, so every child was assigned the task of choosing our dinner vegetable one day.  When it’s time to prepare the meal, I send the appropriate child to select a veggie.  #4 has to be reminded that catsup is not a vegetable; everyone else does a pretty good job.

Menus

Sometimes I feel too awful to think about food.  The other day I ate a handful of cashews and a few slices of dried mango for breakfast, and in the evening I ate a bowl of granola and a banana.  Nothing mid-day.  Not exactly the most nutritious.  I don’t think I would have eaten at all, except that all these pills will eat a hole in my stomach if I don’t take them with food.  Obviously, it’s time to write some more menus.  Planning ahead eliminates the “Oh, no! What am I going to make for dinner? There’s nothing thawed!”
